Triple Success at the third Pedigree Calf Fair for Irish Moiled breeder
It was a fantastic day for Brian O’Kane and family of Martinstown, Co. Antrim when their trio of homebred Irish Moiled exhibits won three of the top four accolade championship spots in the breed classes at the Pedigree Calf Fair 2017. The O’ Kane family got off to a flying start when they dominated the combined Senior and Intermediate bull class winning 1st and 2nd prize with Ravelglen Rocky (intermediate) and Ravelglen Christy (senior) respectively. Both these bulls went on to clinch the Reserve Senior and Reserve Junior Championship spots whilst Ravelglen Kiera, one of the youngest exhibits of the day won 1st prize in the Junior heifer class and went on to win the Junior Championship title.
It was senior heifer, Prestwood Pandora bred by Chris Ball of Uttoxeter, Staffordshire that was crowned senior champion by judge Mark Logan, farm manager of Clandeboye Estate home of the pedigree herds of Holstein, Jersey and Irish Moiled cattle. Mark commented that he was honoured to be asked to judge the Irish Moiled’s at the Pedigree Calf Fair pointing out that the standard of the breed has improved dramatically over the last number of years which was very evident in the junior championship line up comprising of 8 fabulously turned out quality young animals which was a credit to all breeders concerned. Mark’s pick of the day was Ravelglen Kiera, a junior heifer calf owned by Brian O’Kane, saying the moment she stepped into the ring he fell in love with her, she had great locomotion and was very eye catching.
