The Irish Moiled Cattle Society encourage breeders to use the type classification system as much as possible to improve functional traits in the breed such as the udder and feet & legs, to improve structural traits in the breed such as body capacity and rump width and to improve the conformation of the breed, whilst maintaining the breed character.
Below is a round up of the top classified animals in 2019.
Bulls can be classified from the age of 18 months onward, however, only bulls over 2 years old can gain enough points to be categorised as Excellent.
VG 89 points is the maximum score that a bull under the age of 2 years old can achieve.
As animals mature they usually gain points each time they are scored if scored on an annual basis so a younger animals with less points can be of equal or greater potential to more mature animals of more points.
VG 89 points is the maximum score that a 1st or 2nd cow can achieve. Only 3rd calvers and above can achieve the Excellent category.
It is worth noting that younger cows with less points can be of equal or greater potential to more mature cows with more points.
